Thomas J. O'Connor, 86, of Brookfield, died July 2 at Pope John Paul II Center in Danbury. He was the husband of Joan (Sweeney) O'Connor, to whom he was married for 57 years.

He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and lived in Brookfield most of his life. He was a graduate of Iona Preparatory High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Naval Submarine Service from 1944-46 with a rank of Seaman 1st class, aboard the USS Segundo. He received a bachelor's degree from Manhattan College in 1952.

He was a vice president of sales in the cement industry for 30 years, retiring in 1987.

He was chairman of the membership committee for Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury from 1985-90.

His interests included golf, travel, American history, the New York Giants, music and gardening. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Cecile O'Connor, of Silver Spring, Md.; Sheila, and her husband, James Kuhn, and their children, Sean, Caitlin, and Conor Kuhn, of New Milford; Debra, and her husband, Kevin, and their children, Michelle, and Patrick Cully, of St. Louis; Denise, of Brookfield; Sharon, and her husband, Glenn Berger, and their children, Maya, and Ethan Berger, of Ossining, N.Y.; and two sisters, Patricia Archibald, and family, of Hyannis, Mass., and Irene Howard, and family, of Bremerton, Wash.

The Green Funeral Home in Danbury was in charge of the arrangements.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, at the convenience of the family.
