TheatreWorks New Milford will hold auditions by appointment only Dec. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. and Dec. 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. for its upcoming production of David Mamet’s drama “Race.”

A cast of three men, including two Caucasian and one African-American, ages 30 to 50, and one African-American woman ages 20 to 30 is sought.

Francis A. Daley of Danbury will direct the play.

The play is about two lawyers who find themselves defending a wealthy white executive charged with raping a black woman.

When a new legal assistant gets involved in the case, the opinions that boil beneath explode to the surface.

When David Mamet turns the spotlight on what we think but can’t say, dangerous truths are revealed, and no punches are spared.

The play has very strong language and controversial themes.

All roles are available, and both professionals and amateurs are welcome, however, the theater is a non-equity theatre and does not offer compensation.

Actors should be prepared with a monologue and to read selected sides from the script.

It is very important to be familiar with the script before auditioning. Interested actors should bring a head shot and resume.

Rehearsals will begin in early January and the play will run weekends from Feb. 15 through March 9.
