TheatreWorks New Milford will open its production of “Stage Kiss,” a comedy by Sarah Ruhl, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m.

Following opening night, the play will be staged Fridays and Saturdays 8 p.m. through Jan. 6, as well as Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.

In addition, a New Year’s Eve gala will be held Dec. 31 at 8 p.m.

The event will feature appetizers, dinner and a performance of the production with an open bar.

“Stage Kiss” is a highly theatrical, not-so-romantic comedy about two actors with a history who are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama.

They quickly lose touch with reality as the story onstage follows them offstage.

It is a tale of what happens when lovers share a stage kiss—or when actors share a real one.

The production is under the direction of Nina Agostine Smith of Waterbury and produced by Frank Arcaro of Roxbury.

The cast includes Karin Elsesser of New Milford, David Macharelli of Waterbury, Matt McQuail of Newtown, J. Scott Williams of Brookfield, Rosie Koocher of Bronxville, NY, Richard Chad Frey of New Fairfield, and Klara Gribetz of White Plains, N.Y.

The set was designed by Brandon Cook of Naugatuck and lighting designed by Dylan Dineen of Waterbury.

Tickets are $23 for reserved seating. Students and military personnel with ID will be admitted for $18. A pay-what-you-can-night will be held Dec. 14 at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the New Year’s Eve gala are $80, which includes hors d’oeuvres and an open bar of wine, beer and soft drinks.

Reservations can be made online at or by calling the box office at 860-350-6863.

The theater is located at 5 Brookside Ave., with parking located in the lot behind the Catherine E. Lillis Administration Building off East Street.
