Theater slates youth offerings

TheatreWorks New Milford is offering local youths opportunities to learn key performance techniques with a new course for kids.

Storybook Theatre, open to ages 4 to 7, is April 20 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Instructor Jill Pace will lead the workshop, which will teach basic theatre terms. Students will make a simple craft to take home and put on their own story book play.

The fee is $35.

Larry Engler, of Poko Puppets, will offer a "Making A Pipper & Bringing it To Life" workshop May 18. He will demonstrate how to make a simple puppet using ordinary items such as paper plates, plastic bags, and other materials at home.

The fee is $75.

A workshop for kids 12 to 18 will be offered June 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Broadway professionals Ben Simpson, Stephanie Klemons, Dan Micciche and Tony Award nominee Robin DeJesus. It will focus on style, technique and performance quality.

Two summer programs will be offered. Amy Emke will work with grade-school students on "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," and professional choreographer Robert Bianca will work with teens on "Man of La Mancha."
