The Rev. John S. Ahern, of Seymour, 86, died Dec. 7 at Connecticut Hospice.

The Rev. Ahern was born Dec. 28, 1925, in New Haven, son of James and Anna Ahern.

He entered St. Thomas Seminary in 1946 and completed his studies at Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure University. He was ordained by the Most Rev. Archbishop Henry J. O'Brien on May 27, 1954, in St. Joseph's Cathedral.

The Rev. Ahern served at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Washington Depot, St. Mary's in Unionville, St. Patrick and St. Anthony in Hartford, St. Mary's in Newington, St. Michael's in Beacon Falls, Immaculate Conception in Norfolk and Church of the Good Shepherd in Seymour.

He is survived by a brother, Donald, and wife, Theodora, Ahern; a sister, Jeanne, and husband, Vincent, Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews, Jo-Ann Munsill, Charles Lang, Eileen Fletcher, Julianna Albert, Mary Lou O'Keefe, Christine Sullo, Susan, James and Mary Ann Borger, Barbara Salzano, Doreen and Kathleen Ahern, Patricia Ahern Luby and John Hines. He was predeceased by four sisters, Julia Lang, Vera Reynolds, Margaret Heffernan and Rita Borger; a niece, Frances Anastasio; and three nephews, Daniel Ahern and Joseph and Vincent Hines.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Henry J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford, today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.
