The Village Center Organization of New Milford, formerly New Milford Downtown Business Alliance, would like to thank everyone who helped to make this holiday season a great one.

More people than ever attended our "Festival of Lights" tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 24 this year.

I would like to thank everyone who helped to make this a success.

I want to thank the Methodist Church Men's Group, who puts up trees every year and also helps to turn them on during the lighting ceremony; Road and Track Sports for loaning us and setting up the sound system; and to Angevine's Tree farm in Warren for donating the trees.

I want to thank Mayor Pat Murphy for attending and welcoming in the holiday season with everyone and Frank Wargo for acting as our emcee for the evening.

Cathy Reynolds and some of the singers from the United Methodist Church Choir also joined in the fun singing some carols with the crowd until Santa arrived.

Also a big thanks goes to the Saint Francis Junior Youth Group for helping again with the pictures with Santa. All of the proceeds from that went to the Santa Fund.

Thanks to the Northville Fire Department for delivering Santa to the Green and also, of course, I want to thank Santa for visiting us for this special event.

I also want to thank the Parks and Recreation Department for putting up the tree in front of Town Hall and putting the pole wraps on the light posts.

Also, thank you to the people and businesses in the community that sponsor the light post decorations and also donate to the Walter Shuttle Tree Fund each year. Without your donations, our downtown would not look as beautiful as it does each year.

I want everyone to know that the Lighting of the Lights and Santa's arrival happens each year through the efforts of many volunteers who give their time freely for the benefit of the community.
