Swimmer drowns at Bull's Bridge in Kent

A New York man drowned Saturday evening after he slipped into the water off Bull's Bridge Road in South Kent while visiting friends, police said.

Juan C. Lopez, 23, of Jamaica, N.Y., was pulled from the water by his friends at about 5:30 p.m., but was unresponsive.

The victim was swimming in a cove along the Housatonic River near the covered bridge and had been pulled from the water when emergency personnel arrived, scanner reports indicated.

A LifeStar helicopter was called to the scene and paramedics preformed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.
