The American Legion Hall-Jennings Post 153 and the Lions Club in Kent will co-sponsor two high school students who are interested in attending a one-week Boys State and Girls State program.

One boy and one girl will be selected.

Junior high school students permanently residing in Kent, or attending one of the public or private high schools, and who are interested in developing confidence and leadership skills are invited to apply.

The program will be offered at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic June 22-27 for boys and June 28-July 3 for girls.

The local post and the Lions Club will provide the $300 fee for each boy and girl chosen who demonstrates leadership potential through his or her school record, their character and the recommendation of their educational institution.

Transportation to and from Eastern Connecticut State University will be the responsibility of the student's parents or guardian.

The deadline to apply is April 25 for girls and May 23 for boys.
