New Milford High School graduates 355 in its Class of 2014

Three-hundred fifty-five young men and women received their diplomas Saturday, June 21, to climax New Miford High School's 2014 commencement ceremony.

More than 4,000 were on hand to cheer the graduates at the ONeill Center on the westside campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Among the student speakers were valedictorian Maren Harcken, salutatorian Nevan Swanson, honor essayist Samantha Quinn and Class of 2014 President Emma Riggs, who led her classmates in the traditional turning of the tassel.

Class vice president Sydney Silva had earlier led the throng in the Pledge of Allegiance and Katie Schaffer conducted the school orchestra in the Star Spangled Banner.

Senior members of the NMHS chorus performed Mark Patterson's "The Silence and the Song."

Offering their congratulations and words of guidance were Superintendent of Schools JeanAnn Paddyfote, NMHS Principal Greg Shugrue and health teacher Erica Keane.
