A group of dancers from the Greater New Milford area will soon be in the spotlight at Disney World in Florida.

Twenty dancers from Starrs Studio of Dance based in Kent have been selected to participate in Disney World's "Dance of the World" program as part of its night-time electrical parade June 29 through July 3.

Only a few studios from each state in the U.S., as well as Canada and Mexico, are chosen to participate.

Over 60 studios will be featured.

In addition, the group has been invited to perform two dances, choreographed by Starrs' founding instructor/choreographer Starr Jeffreys, at Hollywood Studios for the entire Disney cast and the dancers' families.

"We are looking forward to an exciting and fun trip, with lots of memories as we represent Connecticut," Jeffreys said.

"It's a huge honor for the town and for the studio," she said.

Jeffreys said approximately 70 people from the local studio, including parents, will attend the event.

Participating dancers include Melody Bard, Caitlyn Chemero, Chloe Chemero, Brie Hatzmann, Shannon Palmer, Kayleigh Rafferty, Sheah Tooley, Samantha Tripler, Brayden Tripler and Kendall Williams of New Milford; Leah Grill, Erin Lewis and Alyssa Svint of Sherman; and Kara Franks, Aiyana Miller, Katrina Nordland, Hannah Richards, Audrey Richards, Camryn Woodin and Winnie Zhang of Kent.

Selected dancers will dance in fiber optic, light-up costumes and ruby red heels, and walk in the electrical parade choreographed by Disney World's professional dancing staff at the Magic Kingdom.

Jeffreys said the dancers have been "tirelessly rehearsing for the parade and dancers since January."

Those selected are also members of Starrs' exclusive competition team, traveling across the state.
