Many fine young wrestlers have gone through the New Milford Wrestling Association.

One grappling peer who opted to compete this past season with the Danbury Youth Wrestling Association is 10-year-old Javon Priar.

Javon spent the past school year attending fourth-grade at Sarah Noble Intermediate School and dedicating his athletic talents for a fourth straight season to the DYWA program.

This season, Javon competed May 5-6 in the MAWA Eastern Nationals in Salisbury, Md. having made the cut alongside about 1,400 other young wrestlers who had survived nationwide competition at 34 district sites.

Entered as a fourth seed, Javon wnt unbeaten to advance to the championship finals. The New Milford grappler lost his final match but claimed the runnerup spot in the 80-pound weight class.

"To even make it to the MAWA Eastern National wrestling championships is a great achievement," praised his mother, Tiffany Cole, "let alone place in the top two."

Congratulations to both teams in taking Second Place at the League Championships !

Both teams wrestled extremely well! On Saturday, the Elementary Team was one point shy of tying Danbury for first place. The NMWA had 14 wrestlers place in the top three positions and proved they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

On Sunday, the Middle School team fell four points short of beating Danbury for the top spot. The NMWA had 12 wrestlers in the championship round and ended up with 16 wrestlers in the top three slots. Chris Usaty also walked away with the tournament "Outstanding Wrestler" award after a very strong performance.

Every wrestler should be proud of themselves for a great effort and proud of our clubs accomplishments this season.

Kenneth Jordan of New Milford pulled an impressive mat double last month when he captured state and New England wrestling championships.

The Sherman School eighth-grade student claimed the state title at 110 pounds in early March and then added New England laurels March 13 in Lowell, Mass.

"He has worked long and hard for this title," said his mother, Mary Ellen Jordan. "Four weeks prior to the states last year he broke his hand at practice, thus ending his season.*

Kenneth wrestled in the New Milford Wrestling Association program starting in second grade and, for the last three seasons, has trained three times a week with a private club, KT KIDZ, in South Winsdor.

"We are very proud of him," added Mrs. Jordan, "and looking forward to his high school years at New Milford."
