Shirley Baslow, 78, loved gardening
Shirley "Sis" Linnea (Swanson) Baslow, 78, of Washington, died Oct. 27 at New Milford Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Eugene Baslow.
She was born Oct. 16, 1934, in New Milford, to the late Esther and George Swanson of Washington Depot.
Mrs. Baslow was a graduate of Washington High School, where she took flying lessons along with her brother.
She had a lifelong passion for gardening and meticulously maintained her flower beds.
She shared her life with many animals, and but was most fond of her cats. Often while working in the garden, her cats would be by her side hiding in the bushes.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Mrs. Baslow is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Baslow Holden, and her husband, Robert Holden; and granddaughter, Lindsay Holden, of Merrimac, Mass.; four sisters, Louise Miller, of Roxbury; Dorothy Lee, of Washington Depot; Esther Camp, of Wedgefield, S.C., and Judy Williams, of Kent; two brothers, Paul Swanson, of Palm Coast, Fla., and Gene Swanson, of Bantam; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Wassong, and four brothers, George Swanson, Alan Swanson, John Swanson and Eric Swanson.
Services will be at the First Congregational Church in the spring.
