The Sherman Library has kicked off its annual membership drive.

About half of the library's operating budget comes from its annual membership drive, along with the library's book and barn sales, gifts and foundation support.

"Today the library is busier than ever," said Susan Seeger, membership chairwoman. "Its patrons have been borrowing more, attending more of the events, spending more time socializing at the library, etc.," she said.

"Membership does have its benefits, check out the website to learn about what the library offers and please consider becoming a member," she said.

Since its founding in 1925, the library has been governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.

Today the library houses more than 28,000 books, audio books, films and other materials.

A member of Bibliomation since 2000, all Sherman Library operations are fully computerized.
