The Sherman Chamber Ensemble will kick off its signature summer concert series July 8 in Kent and July 9 in Sherman.

Concerts will take place at 8 p.m. July 8, Aug. 12 and Sept. 2 at 1 N. Main St. in Kent, and July 9, Aug. 13 and Sept. 3 at Lake Mauweehoo Clubhouse on Leach Hollow Road in Sherman.

A reception with the musicians will follow each concert.

The July concert, “A Journey Across Europe,” will feature pianist Margaret Kampmeier, Susan Rotholz on flute, Jill Levy on violin, Sarah Adams on viola and Eliot Bailen on cello.

The performances will include works from Turina, Martinu, Ibert and Schumann.

“Sweet Diversions with Mozart” is the theme of the Aug. 12-13 concerts.

The program will feature Susan Rotholz on flute, Gerald Reuter on oboe, Doori Na on violin, Michael Roth on viola and Eliot Bailen on cello.

The concerts will include Phantasy Quartet by Benjamin Britten, Heliade by Phillipe Hersant, Duo for Oboe and Flute by Robert Muczynski and Divertimento in E flat Major for String Trio, K. 563, by Mozart.

“Mendelssohn’s Quintet and Vivaldi Hurdy Gurdy” will be the theme of the Sept. 2-3 concerts

The program will feature Susan Rotholz on flute, Jill Levy on violin, Paul Woodiel on violin, Sarah Adams on viola, Michael Roth on viola and Eliot Bailen on cello.

The concerts will include flute quartet by Francois Devienne; Paul’s “What’s This” works on curious instruments; and Quintet in Bb Major Op. 87 28, by Felix Mendelssohn.

A free children’s concert, featuring a retelling of Munro Leaf’s “Ferdinand the Bull,” narrated by Susan Rotholz, and composed and performed by Elion Bailen for solo cello, and “Peter and the Wolf” will be offered Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Sherman Library in Sherman Center.

The ensemble’s annual bluegrass jamboree, “For Bluegrass Fans of All Ages,” will take place Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. at Lake Mauweehoo Clubhouse and Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Kent Village Barns in Kent center.

The event will feature ensemble regulars and local performers.

Patrons are invited to bring chairs and blankets.

The annual Lake Mauweehoo Coffeehouse Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. at Lake Mauweehoo Clubhouse.

The event will feature ensemble regulars and coffeehouse band members, who will perform music from the 1960s.

Tickets to the concert are $20, with proceeds to benefit improvements at the clubhouse.

“Jazzing Up the Classics” will be the theme of the Nov. 26 concert at 4 p.m. at Christ Church on Quaker Hill, 17 Church Road in Pawling, N.Y., and Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, routes 7 and 341.

The concerts will feature pianist Ted Rosenthal, along with Susan Rotholz on flute, Thomson Kneeland on bass, Chris Parker on drums, Paul Meyers on guitar and Eliot Bailen on cello.

Tickets to the Nov. 26-27 concerts are $30, free for children 15 and under accompanied by an adult purchasing a ticket.

Tickets to the July 8-9, Aug. 12-13 and Sept. 2-3 concerts are $30 for adults, $25 for students and seniors, and free for children 15 and under accompanied by an adult purchasing a ticket. For Sherman concerts only, lawn tickets may be purchased the night of the concert for $10.

Discounted subscription tickets are available for the full summer concert series, which includes performances Aug. 12-13 and Sept. 2-3.
