Shepaug's Crossley awaits trip to Poland
Shepaug Valley School senior Rachel Crossley will culminate her yearlong independent study, Medical Outreach: Near and Far, by participating April 5 to 19 in a pre-medical shadowing program in Warsaw, Poland.
The program, administered through Gap Medics, will enable the Bridgewater resident to gain firsthand clinical exposure at MSW Central Clinic Hospital, an 800-bed facility in the eastern European country's biggest city.
Rachel will work with a team of 14 students from across the world, observing diagnosis and treatment of patients in wards and operating rooms.
She will interface with doctors, nurses and patients in the areas of cardiac surgery and obstetrics and gynecology.
As part of her Shepaug senior project, Rachel will also examine the European model of emergency medical services.
She volunteers as an EMT with both New Milford Community Ambulance and the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department.
"I'm excited to observe and participate in the delivery of medical services in Poland," Crossley said.
"It will be a valuable experience to expand my medical training, and apply new knowledge here in my local community," she said.
