Shepaug Dramatics will present “Seussical, the Musical” in April at Shepaug Valley School in Washington.

The full-scale production of the musical will be staged April 1-2 and 8-9 at 7 p.m. at the South Street school.

Set in the fictional “Jungle of Nool” and “Whoville,” the family-friendly show features 30 songs, dozens of dance routines, colorful costumed characters, and a live orchestra comprised of professional musicians and Shepaug students.

The production marks the first time Shepaug Dramatics has performed an all-school musical with students from all grades (six to 12).

Students have been rehearsing for two months with a team of professional artists, including Beth Harvison, director of theatrical production and Music; Leland Williams, drama director; Ashley Billings, assistant drama director; Barbara Braverman, choreographer; Emily Taylor, manager; and Dave Raposo, pit orchestra conductor.

“Seussical” brings to life characters from numerous books authored by Theodor Seuss Geisel, best known as Dr. Seuss.

While the primary story line originates from Seuss’ “Horton Hears a Who,” additional personalities such as the Grinch, the Cat in the Hat, and Gertrude McFuzz sing and dance their way into the show.

“Seussical” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), with all authorized performance materials supplied by MTI.

Tickets to “Seussical, the Musical” are $10 and may be purchased at the door or by calling 860-717-2444.
