Seth Alfred "Al" Stietzel, 71, of Gaylordsville, died suddenly June 8 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Katherine "Kay" (O'Donnell) Stietzel.

He was born March 27, 1942, in Danbury, son of the late Seth F. and Laura (Morgan) Stietzel, of Brookfield. He attended Brookfield schools and was a 1962 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury.

He entered the United States Air Force in March 1963 and served until March 1967. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was based in Okinawa and flew with C-130 aircraft as a jet mechanic.

He retired from the state of Connecticut Department of Transportation in 1997 after 33 years of employment in maintenance and as a carpenter for Property Control.

His retirement years were filled with time with family and friends, travel with friends from Pennsylvania, time with the Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department, pig roasting and helping with the roast beef cooking at the Bridgewater Country Fair.

He was a life member of the Andrew B Mygatt VFW Post 1672 in New Milford and Gaylordsville Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jean Denesen, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Woodbury, Minn.; a son, John Stietzel, and his wife, Michelle, of Gaylordsville; three grandsons, Robert Issac "Ike" Denesen, Joshua Martin Stietzel and newborn Jameson Gregory Stietzel; an uncle, Hubert Morgan, and his wife, Regina; a sister, Nan Delohery, and her husband, Bill, of New Fairfield; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place June 14 at 10 a.m. at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford. Burial with full military honors will follow at Morningside Cemetery in Gaylordsville.
