Local police officers participating in a statewide campaign sponsored by the state Department of Transportation between May 23 and June 5 issued 46 tickets for failing to wear or properly use seat belts.

During the recent "Click It or Ticket" safe-driving campaign, police said 91 percent of the drivers they observed were wearing seat belts.

In addition to the seat-belt offenses, officers made two driving under the influence arrests and issued 92 other motor vehicle infractions.

Motorists are reminded state and local police will be enforcing speed and drunken-driving laws throughout the summer season, Capt. Mark Buckley said.
