Kent Memorial Library will present a discussion and book signing with John E. Scofield Nov. 21 at 3 p.m.

Scofield, a Sharon author and artist, will discuss and sign copies of his recently published book “Robert Motherwell - In the Studio” at the Main Street library.

The book is the author's account of working as studio assistant to the abstract expressionist painter Robert Motherwell, in the 1970s.

Scofield has been designing and constructing furniture, architecture, paintings, drawings and sculpture for over 30 years in the United States and Europe.

His “Folding Music Stand” is in the permanent Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

From 2002 to 2006, Scofield was the artist-in-residence and overall design coordinator for the construction of Kent Village Barns in Kent.

Many of his outdoor sculptural amenities there such as “Mountain Waves” and “Figures in Landscape” will be retained by the new owners.

A former South Kent resident, Scofield now lives in Sharon with his wife, Bartley Johnstone, owner of B. Johnstone & Co. in Kent, and their daughter Evie.
