A new technology director has been by the New Milford school district.

The Board of Education voted unanimously Nov. 16 to hire a Monroe school district technology manager for the position.

Daniel DiVito, 30, of Trumbull will replace Dave Elmore, who retired in October after 13 years in the job.

Mr. DiVito will begin his job Dec. 6 at an annual salary of $75,000.

He has a bachelor's degree in psychology and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration in technology management from Capella University.

Mr. DiVito said he is excited about the opportunity to bring new technology into classrooms that will enable more interactive experiences for teachers and students.

He added he welcomes the opportunity to work with staff so they understand how to best use technology to their advantage.

Mr. DiVito views technology as a way to enhance classroom learning.

"It's a passion of mine,'' he said.

In Monroe, Mr. DiVito helped create an information technology internship program with local colleges and created a high school information technology work study program.

He also assisted in developing an online work order system so staff could track requests and reduce response time for computer assistance from 72 hours to 24 hours.

Board member Alexandra Thomas said she is impressed with his credentials and welcomes what she expects he will bring to the job.

After Mr. DiVito's appointment, the board gave a standing ovation to Mr. Elmore for his contributions to the school district.
