Scholarship forms available at high schools
Following are some of the scholarship funds currently accepting applications from students in the Greater New Milford area this year. They include:
Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce Scholarship: Deadline: April 30. Open to high school seniors. Applicant must have a parent or guardian who works for a business that is a member of the Chamber, or must be an employee of a Chamber member. Applications available at local guidance offices and Chamber of Commerce office, located on Railroad Street. For more information, call (860) 354-6080.
Roger Sherman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship: Deadline: May 1. Open to any New Milford High School senior who plans to enter college in the fall of 2007 and has demonstrated an interest in American history and community affairs. Applications available in the NMHS guidance office.
Gaylordsville Historical Society Alan S. Farnham Memorial Scholarship: Deadline: May 5. Open to any senior graduating from high school who lives in the Gaylordsville Fire Department District. Criteria includes academic standing, community service, two letters of recommendation and an essay. Applications available at New Milford High School, Nonnewaug High School and Henry Abbott Regional Technical School. Mail applications to Gaylordsville Historical Society, P.O. Ann Magoun Scholarship Fund: Deadline: May 7. Open to high school seniors who graduated from Sherman School. Applications available at Sherman School.
Bridgewater Scholarship Fund: Deadline: May 15. Open to Bridgewater residents who will enter college in September, or who are currently attending college or graduate school. Applications available at Bridgewater's town hall, Shepaug Valley High School, Union Savings Bank and Burnham Library. Applicants must sign up for an interview on the sign-up sheet at town hall.
Fairfield County Hounds Scholarship: Deadline: May 15. Open to Bridgewater and Roxbury students who plan to study agriculture or animal husbandry. Application is same as Bridgewater Scholarship Fund application and is available at Bridgewater's town hall, Shepaug Valley High School, Union Savings Bank and Burnham Library.
Gladys Cummings Memorial Scholarship: Deadline: As soon as possible. Open to graduating seniors in the New Milford High School Class of 2007 who plan to pursue nursing or teaching careers. Applications are available in the NMHS guidance office.
Donald H. Knowles Memorial Scholarship: Deadline: As soon as possible. Open to graduating seniors in the New Milford High School Class of 2007. Winners each year will be eligible for continuing scholarship grants if they meet certain academic requirements during their college careers. Applications are available in the NMHS guidance office.
