Immaculate High's dreams of an undefeated season ended in nightmarish fashion as Bethel High romped to a 36-13 victory over the Mustangs. In doing so, the once-beaten Wildcats not only handed Immaculate its first loss of this season, but also snapped a 14-game unbeaten streak dating back to early last season.
Ridgefield High's soccer team has been ranked ninth in the state in this week's schoolboy soccer poll as the regular season closed.
They played 100 minutes of soccer at New Milford yesterday (October 31, 1980) and still failed to arrive at a verdict, so when evening approached and the curtain came down on the Western Connecticut Conference title match, Weston and Bethel were declared co-champions for 1980.

Abbott Tech's cross country team finished first in the CIAC Section 2 Class L qualifying meet at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Hamden. Tech placed five runners among the top 25 finishers to win easily. Four additional area teams qualified for this week's championship meets, but the day belonged to the rags-to-riches Wolverines. The Connecticut Board of Fisheries and Game has consummated a deal for purchase of approximately 80 acres of land at the southern extremity of East Swamp on the Bethel side of the Danbury town line. The tract is the former Judd property and will be used for open hunting.
