Roxbury church sets Victorian service
Roxbury Congregational Church at 24 Church St.will hold a Victorian Christmas service Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.
The service that will last about 45 minutes will feature a sanctuary adorned with evergreens, seasonal ribbons and lights, and scripture, songs and prayers, followed by a reception.
The church’s minister, the Rev. David Peters, heard about the Westfield Congregational Church in the eastern Connecticut town of Danielson which has offered a popular Victorian-themed celebration.
“It’s really a step back in time,” he said. “People come in to this beautifully adorned church with lit candles and memories flood back.”
“The celebration includes period carols and the story of Christmas being told,” he said. It’s a way to remind people of the meaning of Christmas.”
