He was born and raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania and continued to work in agriculture until becoming an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life for 17 years. He opted to drive professionally for Kimberly-Clark for the rest of his career.
He was a parishioner at St. Edward the Confessor Church and was a member of the men's Prayer and Bible Study Group for many years.
He was an accomplished gardener and award-winning beekeeper.
In addition to his wife, Claire, of 57 years, he will be missed by his eight children, Christine M. Mattei , wife of Alan Mattei of Southbury, Ross "Ted" Meyer Jr. of Danbury, Greg Alan Meyer of New Milford, Steven Gerard Meyer of Woodbury, Laura Meyer Russo , wife of Alan Russo of Southbury, Daniel Hugh Meyer, husband of Lisa L. Meyer of New Fairfield, Carolyn Claire Meyer of Danbury and Mary-Lynn Boyts of New Fairfield; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Pearl M. Jacabella of Shawnee On the Delaware, Pa. and Theone Hughes of Osceola Mills, Pa.; as well as a sister-in-law, Imogene Meyer, wife of his late brother, Daniel H. Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
