Ronald Costa Sr., 74, father of Sherman woman

Ronald Joseph Costa Sr., 74, of Heritage Village, Southbury, died peacefully Feb. 25, 2011, after a brief illness.

Mr. Costa was born March 1, 1936, in Fall River, Mass., son of the late John and Alice (Perry) Costa. He moved to Bridgeport when he was 17.

He began his career working at the lab at St. Vincent's before moving to Danbury Hospital, where he worked a variety of jobs for 37 years.

Upon his retirement from Danbury Hospital as VP of Operations, Mr. Costa worked as the VP of administrative support for Meyer Jabara for more than a decade.

Mr. Costa lived in Newtown for more than 30 years, was active in local politics, and was a member of the Police Commission and the Charter Revision Committee.

He was also active in local sports and was a member of the men's club at St. Rose of Lima Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Costa was an avid New York Yankee fan and was eagerly anticipating the start of this year's baseball season.

Family members say he loved travel, tropical breezes, spending time by the pool, and having an eternal tan.

Mr. Costa enjoyed his grandchildren to the fullest, never missing anything they participated in, whether it was a sporting or school event.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Draybek) Costa; three children, Ronald J. Costa Jr. and his wife, Kristen, of Trumbull, John F. Costa and his wife, Margaret, of Norwalk, and Cheryl A. Pallisco and her husband, Vincent, of Sherman; four grandchildren, Sara and Leigh Costa and Vienna and Vincent Pallisco Jr.; a brother, John Costa, and his wife, Janet, of Fairfield; a nephew, John Costa, of Florida; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

The Magner Funeral Home of Norwalk was in charge of arrangements.

Since Mr. Costa enjoyed his grandchildren so much, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the athletic departments of Norwalk High School, 55 County St., Norwalk, CT 06851 or New Milford High School, 388 Danbury Road, New Milford, CT 06776.
