Rifle shots lead to New Milford arrest
A 49-year-old local man is facing charges stemming from firing a high-powered rifle in a residential neighborhood.
Douglas T. Murphy, of Burnett Road in New Milford, was arrested Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7:40 p.m. along Burnett Road after police had responded to complaints that he was drunk and firing a rifle within 500 feet of neighboring homes.
Murphy was charged with criminal violation of a protective order, unlawful discharge of a fire arm, disorderly conduct/fight with a dangerous instrument, first-degree reckless endangerment and assaulting a public safety officer.
He was held on $50,000 bond and arraigned Monday, Aug. 18, at state Superior Court in Bantam.
