Revaluation set in Washington
The Washington assessor has announced preparation has begun for the upcoming revaluation, effective Oct. 1.
A representative of eQuality Valuation Services will work in Washington reviewing properties that may have changed during the past five years, as well as properties specifically requested by the assessor.
Work is expected to start in the northern section of town and workers will carry identification from their company, as well as a letter from First Selectman Mark Lyon.
Revaluations are performed to ensure property owners are assessed equitably, and the aim is to arrive at fair market value.
This is a mass appraisal and "one size will not fit all," so hearings will be offered after property owners have received the new values.
Assessment is at 70 percent of the market value and the value schedules set at the time of revaluation are in use until the next revaluation.
Anyone who wishes to have their property inspected is asked to call the assessor's office at 860-868-0398.
