To the Editor:

The New Milford Historical Society & Museum and its member volunteers wish to thank the participants and public who attended our recent artisans show on Nov. 22-23.

It was a great success as a fundraiser and introduced our museum to many people.

We especially wish to thank Robin Sherwood-Armour, chairman of the craft show.

And, we thank Samantha Armour, Olivia Heaton, Mollie Malunphy, Iris Stumps and Kay Mickleson and the Girl Scouts from Troop 40225, who helped us on the day of the event. Their help kept everything running smoothly.

In 2013, the society and museum offered two very special exhibits and several programs for the public.

In spring, our museum curator produced a magnificent exhibit honoring the Garden Club of New Milford on its 90th anniversary.

We further enhanced the exhibit by collaborating with the Northwestern Connecticut Arts Council's Open Your Eyes Studio Tour, featuring our Victorian garden and directing visitors' attentions to contemporary New Milford.

A second special exhibit honored Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 on its 150th anniversary.

Our commemorative medallion this year features the firemen's parade wagon, and sales of the medallion directly benefit the historical museum.

We also participated in Connecticut Museum Open House Day, joining museums all over the state for a special free museum visit.

With the help of several dedicated volunteers, we opened three special exhibits featuring New Milford history, gave a tag sale, offered three book signings, a children's tea, and a unique program that coincided with the anniversary of the Proclamation Declaration.

For a second year, we coordinated a magnificent display of flags honoring our veterans.

Our Christmas shop was open every Saturday throughout the holiday season.

Most of our events happen with the help of members and volunteers who generously give their time.

As the year came to a close, we asked current members to renew their membership.

We invite new members and families to support the museum by becoming members and volunteer, and by attending some of our programs.
