Minor Memorial Library in Roxbury will open an exhibit, “Motion,” with a reception Oct. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The show, which will run through Nov. 16, will feature works by Susan Monserud and Joe Gitterman.

An artist and architect, Monserud most often creates works from her imagination, using oil and mixed media to develop a series of drawings or paintings.

Line and mark-making are essentials in her abstract art and she typically references aspects of built structures as well as the natural landscape to inform her art.

She has shown her work in numerous venues throughout the Northeast and many private collections include her art.

Inspired by movement such as ballet and modern dance, Gitterman creates sculptures of bronze and stainless steel that accentuate sensual form or the suggestion of dynamic movement.

Each of his works is an original that references the fluidity of form and motion.

Gitterman’s work has been selected for several shows in the area, including a juried show at the New Britain Museum of American Art.

Several important private and corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe, including the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston and Norwegian Cruise Lines, feature his sculpture.
