Raymond J. Pilewski, 76, was U.S. Army veteran

Mr. Pilewski was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Dickson City, Pa., son of the late Maryan and Hedwig (Phillipkoski) Pilewski.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. Mr. Pilewski was awarded the Bronze Stars.

He was an engineer with Sikorosky Aircraft Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Pilewski was a founding member, past president, and historian of the Naval Academy Parent Club of Connecticut.

He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church of New Milford, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Catholic War Veterans.

He was also a member of the VFW of Litchfield and the American Legion of Bantam, where he served as Chaplain and member of the firing squad. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus of New Milford.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by seven sons, Phillip and his wife Anne of Northampton, Mass., Ronald of New Preston, Christopher of New Preston, Gregory and his wife Lynn of Taylors, S.C., Benjamin and his wife Karen of Alexandria, Va., Army Sgt. Thaddeus Pilewski, deployed in Iraq, and his wife Barbara of Fort Belvoir, Va., and Navy Lt. Commander Jerome Pilewski of Virginia Beach, Va. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Sarah, Caroline, Alexander, Laura, Zachary and Aidan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church, Route 109, in New Milford. Burial will follow at Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.

There are no calling hours. The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.
