The Region 9 Board of Education and the Joel Barlow Teachers' Association have agreed on the terms of a new three-year contract to start July 1, 2006.

The contract gives the Joel Barlow High School teachers a 2.96 percent general wage increase in each of the three years and includes a new Incentive Pay Section that provides incentives for teachers to expand their knowledge and expertise.

In addition, the contract calls for an increase in the medical-insurance premium share and co-pay in 2006-07. For the next two contract years, negotiations of medical insurance terms will occur.

"Less than 10 percent of towns and associations settle the teachers' contract without the aid of an outside mediator or arbitrator. Once again, Region 9 taxpayers and Region 9 teachers can be proud to be part of that 10 percent," said
Jonathan Budd , JBEA president.
