Pullaro, Grudev stand out in state indoor track

NMHS boys, girls close out winter campaign

Andy Pullaro of Shepaug Valley High and Nick Grudev of New Milford High distinguished themselves recently in state indoor track competition.

Pullaro, a Spartan senior, placed fifth with a 4:26.1 time in the 1,600-meter run at Feb. 19's state open meet at the New Haven Athletic Center.

Grudev, a member of the Class of 2011 running for the Green Wave, earned fifth place at 9:57.1 in the state class L' meet held Feb. 11 in New Haven.

Coach Ryan Rebstock's 4 x 800-meter relay clocked 8:48.72 to finish sixth to account for NMHS' third point in team competition.

The Green Wave finished tied for 21st among 24 teams with representatives at the `L' meet.

Also qualifying for state `L' competition from NMHS were 10 girls in seven events.

Coach Joe Tarantello's squad entered Claire Brofford and Alyssa Gonzalez in the 55-meter hurdles; Alyssa Gonzalez in the 300-meter hurdles; Sofia Amaral in the 3,200-meter run, Claire Broffird, Vienna Pallisco, Lindsay Guptill and Sierra Grazia in the sprint medley relay; Claire Brofford, Megan Greiner, Meghan Dietter and Alysa Gonzalez in the 4 x 200-meter relay; Meghan Dietter, Vienna Pallisco, Sierra Grazia and Lindsay Guptill in the 4 x 400-meter relay; and Lindsay Guptill in the high jump.

"The season was filled with lots of ups and downs," reported first-year coach Tarantello, "and aversity, mainly due to the weather.

"Bright spots were the number of girls who joined the team --75 -- and the number of individuals who qualified for the South-West Conference and state meets," he added.

"We are an extremely young team and there is great potential for the future."
