Kent Cub Scouts Pack 11 is opening up its Pinewood Derby to the public.

For the first time ever, the pack will introduce an open class that will race on the official track and be subject to the same rules as the Scouts' cars.

Official weight-in will take place March 22 at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Kent parish hall on Route 7 North.

Parents, children, siblings and nonmembers of the pack are welcome.

Official Pinewood Derby regulation race kits are required to compete and may be purchased at Kent Apothecary.

Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete.

The inspection committee has the responsibility to disqualify cars that do not meet specifications.

An entry fee of $10 per car is required at weigh-in. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be sold.

Official race rules can be found at http://storage.ctrivers.org/event/docs/5430/northwest_hills_district_pinewood_derby_rules.pdf.
