Public invited to library events

New Milford Public Library on Main Street will offer a variety of programs in coming weeks.

The stock market game, a 10-week simulation that allows participants in grades 4 through 12 to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in the stock market, is offered Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. through April 4.

"It Came from Outer Space" will be offered March 5 at 10:30 a.m. to children four years and older. The stories and crafts program requires a children's library registration.

The Sunday family program will feature altered endings and twisted tales March 6 at 2 p.m.

A reading of work by local writers will be held March 12 at 1 p.m.

Tom O'Carroll, an Irish folklorist, musician and humorist, will present a family musical program March 13 at 2 p.m.

Amy Ziffer will present English cottage gardens March 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The Senior Center and public library will screen the classic comedy "Harvey" March 25. The screenings at the New Milford Senior Center, located at 40 Main St., will include soup. Public services librarian Sally Tornow will lead a discussion on each of the films.

Other activities include a creative writing club for students in grades five through 12 the first Wednesday of every month from 4 to 5 p.m.; a Teen Book Club for youths age 11 to 18 the fourth Wednesday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m.; and a display of art by Ray Crawford in the display case.

Teens aged 13 through 18 can meet at the library to create a video promoting summer reading at the library, using the theme "You are Here."

One winner will be selected from each state and will receive a prize of $250.

The library will provide technological help through April on Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m.
