Judea Garden in Washington will offer an Open Garden Day Aug. 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Steep Rock Association's Macricostas Preserve at 124 Christian St.

Since the first seed was planted in 2009, Judea Garden has grown and distributed over 26,000 pounds of fresh produce to local community members with limited financial resources.

The success of this Steep Rock Association Community Project is due to the cumulative effort of volunteers, interns, sponsors, local businesses and civic organizations.

This year the garden has a new field in development and local Rotary Club members have spearheaded fundraising for a new drip irrigation system.

Guests will be updated on the progress of these endeavors during Open Garden Day.

Attendees will have an opportunity explore the garden, learn about legumes, insects, and organic pest control, and meet summer interns Louise van Tartwijk, Tess Elsinga and Doug Girardot.
