Public invited to Bridgewater garden
Updated 4:14 pm, Tuesday, June 28, 2011
The Beatrix Farrand Garden at Promisek at Three Rivers Farm in Bridgewater will participate in the eighth annual Connecticut Historic Garden Day Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
The garden will also be open July 24.
Concert pianist Denis Nicholson will perform throughout the afternoon.
The stone-walled garden was designed in 1921 by noted landscape architect Beatrix Farrand.
Garden volunteers will be on hand to tell the story of the restored garden, the amphitheater, and the larger 300 acre property situated at the confluence of the Shepaug and Housatonic Rivers. Having been lost to years of overgrowth, the garden was rediscovered in 1992 and restored using the original plan found in the University of California Berkeley archives.
Admission to the garden at 694 Skyline Ridge Road is $5.
