A representative from Gunn Memorial Museum in Washington will present a reading about the life of Betsey Averill of New Preston will be given Jan. 9 at 10 a.m.

The reading will be held at the Washington Senior Center in Bryan Memorial Plaza.

Ms. Averill was born in 1787 and died in 1891 at the age of 103. She was reportedly the oldest person living in Connecticut at that time.

The Averill family was one of the original settlers of New Preston, starting their farm in 1746 after purchasing land from heirs of Chief Waramaug.

Averill Farm is still in operation by the ninth and 10th generations of the family.
