Preserve to offer ‘HollowFest’
Great Hollow Nature Preserve at 225 State Route 37 in New Fairfield will hold “HollowFest: A Fall Family Fun Day” Oct. 27 from noon to 4 p.m.
The event will feature cider pressing, pumpkin painting, a pie eating contest with American Pie Company, baby farm animals from Happy Acres, giant board games, a haunted house and more.
Professional wood carvers will be on hand to help children carve walking sticks, a local bee expert will demonstrate the art of beekeeping, and LLBean will be on hand to teach kids about map and compass orientation, and how to tie various types of knots.
Local land trusts, the Connecticut Audubon Society, and other environmental organizations will be to discuss with visitors about lesser known places to hike in the surrounding area and discussing the pivotal role that their groups play in protecting our natural resources.
Hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as hot apple cider, will be available to purchase.
Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets; picnics are welcome.
Admission is $10 per family/car and $5/adult.
