Praises community's backing for art tour

To the Editor:

This year’s Open Your Eyes Studio Tour, featuring 27 artists’ studios in Washington, Roxbury, Bethlehem and Morris, surpassed our expectations for success.

More than 700 visitors from within the region, as well as from far away, went from studio to studio during the weekend of June 27-28.

More visitors than ever before decided to go on the tour both days.

We are so thankful to the artists for generously opening their studios to the public so visitors could gain insight into and appreciation for what is involved in creating art.

Painters, photographers, sculptors, textiles artists, illustrators, ceramicists, printmakers, jewelers, collage artists, metal and stained glass artists and woodworkers all had a wonderful experience connecting with visitors.

We are also extremely grateful to the tour sponsors for their support in keeping this event free and accessible to all.

Our local businesses, large and small, generously sponsored the sixth annual tour and made it possible for the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council to promote and organize this event effectively.

For this, we thank Sharon Hospital, our most stalwart sponsor for this annual event, together with the Matthews Group, 22 Mainstreet Finds+Design in Millerton, N.Y., WSHU Public Radio, the Republican-American, the Kestrel Foundation, Hickory Stick Bookshop, Union Savings Bank, Burlington Construction, Mansir Printing, Giordano Signs, the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, The Pantry, Washington Food Market and individual donors.

The many volunteers who helped the staff of the arts council prepare for the tour and man the information stations during the weekend are to be thanked as well.

Without the manpower, the funding and the generosity of spirit, the Open Your Eyes Studio Tour would not continue to be the growing success it is each year.
