To the Editor:

National Volunteer Appreciation Week has been April 15-21.

The New Milford Social Services Department and the New Milford Food Bank want to take this opportunity to thank those in our community who have given thousands of hours throughout the year to help residents in need.

Our volunteers are the backbone to the success of many community projects such as the holiday programs, school clothing programs and the many food drives throughout the year.

In addition to those who help with these special events are the ones who have committed to coming in every week to work in the food bank.

These weekly volunteers make the food bank a tremendous success in assisting more than 160 families a week.

In addition to the many individuals who continue to give their time, are the community groups, congregations, schools and local businesses who give their time so generously throughout the year.

On behalf of the staff of New Milford Social Services, I want to say thank you to all our volunteers for their kindness, generosity and commitment.

Also, I would like to take a moment to recognize one group in particular, who has been an outstanding support to the New Milford Food Bank.

The Lions Club of New Milford has been assisting us on a monthly basis with transporting donated food received from the Connecticut Food Bank.

However, in addition to this amazing commitment, they have recently donated a brand new freezer and refrigerator to the food bank.

This generous donation has increased our ability to offer frozen and fresh foods in addition to non-perishable goods.

For this, we are extremely grateful and wanted to offer a special thank you.
