A 62-year-old New Milford man faces federal charges after police said they found more than 100,000 images of child pornography on his home computer.

Richard M. Bellemare was taken into custody April 7 by investigators from the Connecticut Computer Crimes Task Force and was released on a $50,000 bond after appearing before a federal magistrate in Hartford.

His arrest came nearly 10 months after investigators executed a search warrant at Mr. Bellemare's home and seized multiple computers and related equipment they say contained the images and videos.

The investigation began in September 2009 when, according to authorities, a police detective logged onto a publicly available file-sharing program and downloaded images from an Internet address assigned to Mr. Bellemare.

Possession of child pornography carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
