Police chase ends in crash and DUI arrest

NEW MILFORD — A 26-year-old local man is facing drunken driving and evading responsiblity charges follow a police pursuit Saturday.
Matthew Giannone, of Stilson Hill Road, New Milford was arrested Oct. 31 about 2 a.m. when police caught him during a foot chase. Police had tried to stop Giannone for not having his vehicle’s lights on but he kept driving and was involved in an accident at Housatonic Avenue and Pleasant Street, according to police.
Giannone kept driving following the crash, then stopped his vehicle and fled on foot from police. He was caught and arrested after a brief foot pursuit, police said.
Giannone was charged with failure to obey a stop sign, disobeying an officer’s signal, evading responsiblitiy, failure to have vehicle lights lit, driving the wrong way on a single lane highway and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
He was held on $20,000 bond with arraignment Monday in Superior Court in Bantam.
