NEW MILFORD — A skateboarder seriously injured his leg Wednesdayin a collision with a vehicle on Route 109, according to police.

Officers responded to Chestnut Land Road — Route 109 — just north of Hipp Road for a reported car and pedestrian collision around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lt. Lee Grabner said.

A 23-year-old was riding his skateboard down Route 109 when he collided with a 2016 Mazda CX-5, being driven by a 36-year-old northbound on Route 109. Grabner said the skateboarder was taken to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries to his right leg.

The driver of the vehicle was unhurt and declined medical treatment at the scene, Grabner said.

He said the skateboarder was given a verbal warning for reckless use of a highway by a pedestrian.
