Police: Rescue mission director stabbed to death by resident

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The City of Hope Rescue Mission director has been stabbed to death by a resident of the Oklahoma City facility, police said Thursday.

Eric Rupe, 65, died at the scene of Wednesday’s stabbing at the sober-living facility, said police Sgt. Dillon Quirk.

Police arrested Jaython Betterton, 38, at the scene and booked him into the Oklahoma County jail on a first-degree murder complaint. Court records don’t indicate if formal charges have been filed or Betterton has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Quirk said the two men engaged in a verbal altercation Wednesday morning that escalated to Betterton stabbing Rupe.
