Forty-three men's and women's slowpitch softball teams were set last week to make their 2013 season debut in New Milford Parks & Recreation league competition.

The men's league boasts 33 teams in five divisions whie the women's loop has 10 teams.

Regular-season games will be played into early August, when playoffs will start to determine respective divisional champions.

The opening pitches were fired April 15 at Young's Field in men's games pitting DEP vs. Pay It Forward and Beatty Construction vs. A-1 Auto Body/Nostalgia Collectibles (see photos).

Pay It Forward is the name to be used during the 2013 season by the Bruzzi's Landscaping men's team.

"We are all donating $5 for a win, $10 for a loss and sponsor Chris Bruzzi is matching all player fees," said Pay It Forward player Carl Strait. "Proceeds will be sent directly to families affected by the tragedy of Dec. 14."

"All players will wear the number 26," he added.

Those wishing to donate may do so by sending it to Chris Bruzzi, c/0 Bruzzi Lawn and Landscaping, 90 Danbury Road, New Milford, CT 06776.
