Phys-Ed Health & Performance in New Milford will hold its first Health & Fitness Expo May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will coincide with the facility's grand opening party.

Other offerings will include fitness and interactive demonstrations, health screenings, fitness lectures, raffles, food and children's activities such as an inflatable playhouse, Kindermusik Sensation and Kiddie Zumba.

In addition, patrons may participate in a morning outdoor activity such as a cycling tour, group run or guided family hike.

The 20,000-square-foot indoor sport and fitness center on Still River Drive opened in January.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held May 21 at 10 a.m. with Mayor Pat Murphy and the town's economic development manager, Vin Nolan, among those on hand.

"We postponed our grand opening party for the nice weather, so it could include a health and fitness expo that is open to the community," said Eric Corson, who co-owns the facility with Warren Rubin.

Mr. Corson, a certified personal trainer for 20 years, describes the facility as a "cross between a state-of-the-art gym and an educational facility."

As such, "it made sense for us to offer free health screenings, lectures and group fitness opportunities for our area residents" at the expo, Mr. Corson said.

In addition to cardio and weight training technology equipment, Phys-Ed offers a variety of group activity classes, like Zumba, spinning, TRX and Yoga.

"We want to educate people and give them some analysis of their own health," Mr. Corson said.
