Motorists on Still River Drive in New Milford are noticing 16-foot-high blue sports figures painted in silhouette on a 20,000-square-foot indoor sport and fitness center that is nearing completion.
Corson is known in the town as a former trainer at New Milford Sports Club on Grove Street, where he held a position for 14 years.
"I'd been training Warren for about nine years, and one day, he asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I said, `Own a sports complex,' " Corson said. "It's taken us about four years to get it off the ground."
Rubin, a businessman and Sherman resident, said he liked the idea and believed the New Milford area could support another sports facility -- especially one with the game plan of Phys-Ed, he said.
"We don't have a contract that specifies the time-frame a client has to belong," Rubin said. "Give us 30-days notice and leave, if you like. We've also simplified the language of the contract."
Phys-Ed will emphasize education for its clients, he added. Talks will be given by doctors on avoiding and dealing with injuries, on diet and more. There will be triathlon, running and hiking training. An indoor golf simulator will allow for lessons and tournaments.
"I've been in the industry since I was 13 and was cleaning equipment at a club," said Corson, 41. "I wanted to take the knowledge I've gained and take clients one step further in education about their bodies and sports."
Gretchen O'Shea Reynolds started training with Corson in April 2009. When she heard he was part of Phys-Ed, she pre-purchased a membership.
"I had a couple of discs pushed out of place in my back when I started seeing Eric. I was walking in pain," Reynolds said. "Today, I can do anything -- take 35-mile bike rides, run. I really trust Eric's judgment."
Membership at Phys-Ed sports facility, 10 Still River Drive, in New Milford, is an initial $59 for a one-hour interview, then ranges from $45 to $69 a month. Call 860-355-4354.
