Peter Wilkes, 60, of Newtown, died Aug. 5 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda (Rangoni) Wilkes, to whom he was married for 33 years.

He was born June 1, 1953, in Danbury, the son of Sarane "Sally" (Ives) Wilkes and the late John Wilkes Jr. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School in 1971.

He loved golf, crossword puzzles and his newly acquired Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

He was a member of the Heritage Village Country Club. His collection of golf shoes lined up in the trunk of his car were always ready for a game. Everyone who saw the collection was amazed.

He was diagnosed with cancer in October. He purchased his motorcycle a month ago and enjoyed many days riding it.

Prior to his illness, he was employed at Dunmore Corp. in Brewster, N.Y., where he had many friends who kept in touch with him throughout his illness. In earlier years, he was employed at the former Lavelle's Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Brookfield.

He was known as a quiet man with a big heart and beautiful smile.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother; his brothers, Thomas Wilkes, and his wife, Christine, of New Milford; Robert Wilkalis, of Danbury; and Sarane Rogers, of Texas; and a niece, Kelsey. He was predeceased by his father, and a brother, Richard Wilkes.

The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home in Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be in Ives Plot of the Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, and will be at the discretion of the family.
