Peter A. Martinez, 71, of Roxbury died suddenly Oct. 9 in Makindu, Kenya, while on vacation with his wife, Judy Martinez.

Mr. Martinez was born Aug. 9, 1933, in New York City. He spent four years in the Navy and graduated from Boston University in 1954.

He had served in many leadership roles at Christ Church in Roxbury, including vestry member, warden, chalice bearer and head of the "tent crew" for Outreach. He was national account executive for Georgia Pacific until his retirement in 1998.

Mr. Martinez is survived by a daughter, Lyn Stewart of Arlington, Va.; three stepchildren,
Pam Quist of New Preston, Christine Kirschenbaum of Hamden and James Curtis of Nairobi, Kenya; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at Christ Church in Roxbury tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m.
