For the first time in almost two years the Knapp House at the New Milford Historical Society & Museum will be open to the public April 25 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The open house will be held in conjunction with the Connecticut Community Foundation's Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills online giving campaign.

The nearly 250-year-old building recently underwent a complete structural restoration. Museum staff and volunteers are beginning the interior and exterior restoration phase.

Guests will have a rare opportunity to explore the basement and second floor — two areas never before open to the public — to see firsthand the amount of work that has been completed to ensure the building is around for another 250 years.

Donations and the foundation’s bonus dollars contributed during the April 25-26 giving campaign will go toward the cost of painting the exterior of The Knapp House.

Computers and volunteers will be on site to assist with donating through the Connecticut Community Foundation website during the open house.
